To define college Basketball; one can say college basketball is played between teams from different colleges and universities. The first of its recorded games in history was around the 1890s in the United States, which was played to keep a check of athletic students’ health without getting hurt, soon turning the most popular sport among the teenagers thus popularizing it as college basketball, which is played among college-going students. These games originated in the United States under the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Under NCAA, Basketball is divided into three divisions;

  • Division I (Consists largest Schools and Universities as members)
  • Division II (Consists smaller sized Schools and Universities as members)
  • Division III (Consists smaller sized Schools and Universities as members)

These divisions are mainly created to promote college sports, and all the major college-related sports activity happens within these divisions which allows the schools with membership to award the students with athletic scholarships and much more. There are other sports leagues too namely;

  • National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
  • UNited States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA)
  • National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
  • National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA)

Each league has different conferences to divide the teams into groups. Teams are selected depending on the location of the schools. Usually, a College Basketball game does not last long as the game in the NBA ( National Basketball Association). But according to the audiences and viewers college Basketball games are much more interesting and intense. The general time consumed by these college Basketball games is somewhere between 1.5hours to 2 hours inclusive of a 15-minute break at halftime.

Though the time constraint depends upon various factors, the general time division for the NCAA game which is different than the NBA games is as below :

  • A college Basketball game is divided into two halves that are 20 minutes each.
  • This game also has a halftime between the two halves which is approximately 15 minutes long.
  • The NCAA games are not divided on quarterly basis, thus a team foul lasts for an entire half.
  • The NCAA games are usually shorter than the NBA games, due to rules modifications.
